Estoy honrado de haber sido invitado a realizar esta entrevista.
Soy Alexandre Blech, nacido en 1979 en Francia.
Practico el modelismo desde los 8 o 9 años, tuve un periodo de pausa en mi adolescencia, amigos, chicas, cerveza, motos, etc… y volví al hobby a los 24, porque no tenia TV en mi propia casa. Hoy tengo un TV grande y paso mucho tiempo con ella.
Prácticamente solo armo aviones en 1/72, de preferencia aviones de combate a hélice, pero me gustan todas las otras categorías del modelismo, solo que no tengo tiempo para probarlas todas!

I am honored to have been invited to this interview.
I am Alexandre Blech, born in 1979 in France.
I practice modeling since I was 8 or 9 years old. I had an interruption period in my teens, friends, girls, beer, motorbike, and plunged into our hobby around 24 because I had no TV when I enter my own flat. Now I have a big TV and spend too much time on it…
I practically practice only 1 / 72th aircraft with a preference for propeller fighter planes. But I love the entire modeling category I just don’t have enough time to try them all.

Muchos armamos modelos como juguetes de niños, pero también todos tuvimos un momento en que dejamos de jugar para dedicarnos más seriamente al hobbie, recuerdas ese día en que dijiste esto del modelismo me gusta en serio? / Many scale modellers have started building models as a game, using them as toys when child, but at some point in their lives they have stopped playing and have started building in a more professional way… do you remember that transition?
ESP: Si, cuando leí mi primera revista de modelismo, una Tamiya Model Magazine que todavía tengo. Fue a los 13 años y quede completamente sorprendido por la calidad de los modelos. Entonces decidí dar lo mejor de mí para hacer lo mismo con mis modelos.
ENG: Yes it was at the time I read my first modeling magazine, it was a Tamiya Model Magazine, I still have it. I was around 13 and completely amazed by the quality of the models. So I decided to try my best to do the same.
Que cantidad de maquetas estimas que tienes en tu “Stock” sin armar? / How many kits do you have in your stash waiting to be built?
ESP: 50 cajas, en su mayoría escala 1/72.
ENG: 50 boxes mainly at 1/72 scale.
Elige un elemento del modelismo, una herramienta, accesorio, pintura, etc, que haya cambiado la forma de terminar un modelo o bien tu forma de trabajar… algo que a tu entender haya revolucionado el hobbie. / Choose an element of scale modelling (a tool, accessory, paint, etc) that has changed your way of working or the way you finish a model… something that you believe has been revolutionary for this hobby.
ESP: Sin dudas el aerógrafo, pero creo que la internet también es importante. Esta herramienta nos da acceso a un montón de documentación e información para detallar nuestros modelos, y también podemos encontrar un montón de técnicas para mejorar como modelistas.
ENG: Without hesitation the airbrush, but I think Internet is also important. This tool allows access to a huge amount of documentation to detail our models, and especially there is a whole lot of tricks to learn in order to progress.
Te dedicas full-time al armado de modelos? (En caso de responder no, que otra ocupación tienes y cómo manejas tus horarios para poder armar tus modelos?) / How many hours do you dedicate to this hobby? is it a full time activity? if not, how do you manage your time?
ESP: Eso depende, a veces paso 24 hrs a la semana si estoy armando algo que me motive, y a veces no me acerco a la mesa de trabajo por semanas. En general podría decir que trabajo en mis modelos unas 8 horas por semana, principalmente los fines de semana.
ENG: That depends, sometimes I will spend 24 hours a week on a very motivating subject, and sometimes I will not get close to workbench for weeks. In general I would say that I practice about 8h per week, mainly on weekends.
Podrías compartir con nosotros una foto de tu taller/estación de trabajo? / Could you please share with us a picture of your workstation?
ESP: Claro! En un lado todos los productos. La mesa de trabajo con herramientas y espacio de trabajo. A la derecha, lugar para sacar fotos. Cerrando la tapa de la mesa, tengo espacio para pintar.
ENG: Sure! On one side all products and equipment. The workbench with tooling, and workspace. Right photo space. By closing the desk I have a space for painting.
Recuerdas cual fue tu primer maqueta y como la conseguiste? Fue un regalo, la compraste tu mismo? / Do you remember which was your first model and how did you get it? Did you buy it or it was a gift?
ESP: Oh si! fue un F-21 Lion de Italeri en escala 1/72 que me regaló mi padre. Yo tenia unos 8 años. Compré la misma caja hace unos años pero no tengo en mis planes armarlo, o en caso de armarlo, sería el último modelo que armaria, como para cerrar el ciclo.
ENG: Oh yes! It was the F-21 Lion Italeri in the 1/72 scale offered by my father. I was about 8. I bought the same box a few year ago but I didn’t plan to built it, or as the latest model I’ll ever built, to close the loop.
Tienes idea que cantidad de maquetas llevas armadas hasta el día de hoy? / Do you have any idea of how many models have you built so far?
ESP: Se van a reir pero tengo un archivo de Excel con una lista de todos los modelos que arme. Llevo 73 desde que volví al modelismo en el 2004.
ENG: You will laugh but I keep an Excel file with a list of all the models I have built. I am at 73 since my resumption of modeling in 2004.
Cual sería tu rutina modelística, si la hay, o que tiempo de tu día dedicas al modelismo? tienes un horario preferido para sentarte a trabajar, como ser la noche por ejemplo? / Tell us about you modelling routine, do you have a special time of day? at night for example?
ESP: Me gusta armar tranquilo, generalmente durante la noche en la semana y por la tarde los fines de semana.
ENG: I like to work quietly, mainly in the evening during the week and in the afternoon on weekends.
Cuál es tu etapa preferida del modelismo y porque? (compra, investigación, armado, detallado, pintura, weathering, etc). / Which is your favorite process when building a model and why? (Buying, investigation, building, painting, weathering, etc).
ESP: Abrir una nueva caja! es como descubrir un tesoro. También disfruto remover la cinta de enmascarar y descubrir que todo esta perfecto, que alivio!
Por último cuando pongo el modelo terminado en la vitrina y tiro la caja vacía.
ENG: Opening a new box! It’s like discovering a treasure. I also like to remove the masking tape and discover that everything is perfect, what a relieve! Finally when I put the finished model in the show case and I throw the empty box.
En que proyecto o maqueta estas trabajando actualmente? / Which project or model are you working on now?
ESP: Acabo de terminar un Mig-15 UTI y estoy preparando un articulo detallando el armado de un Wingmaster para una revista francesa. Tengo varios proyectos, incluyendo un diorama de un P-47 estrellado para el cual voy a usar un viejo kit de Academy y probar algunas técnicas de diorama… A no ser que… se me ocurra alguna otra idea.
ENG: I just finished a Mig-15 UTI and I’m preparing an article detailing the built for Wingmaster a French magazine. I have several ideas for the continuation, including a diorama of a crashed P-47 in order to use an old Academy box and try some scenic technics. Unless I leave on another idea.
Que tanto te gusta detallar un modelo? Y qué importancia le das a fidelidad histórica cuando armas modelos para ti? / When building models, are the details important to you? how important is the historical fidelity of a model?
ESP: Es muy importante para mi la fidelidad histórica y el aspecto operacional del avión. También detallo y mejoro mis modelos para incrementar el realismo pero no soy un contador de remaches, y nunca corrijo errores en la forma del modelo. Hago lo que a mí me parece divertido.
Cuando veo un modelo, presto atención a la calidad del ensamblado, los transparentes y el acabado general. Por ejemplo, es muy importante afinar los bordes posteriores de las alas y las palas de la hélice.
ENG: It is really important for me to respect the historical fidelity and the operational aspect of the plane. I also detail and refines my models to increase the realism but I am not a rivet counter and hardly ever corrects form errors. I do what looks funny to me that all.
When I look at a model I am also attentive to the quality of the assembly, the clarity of the glazing and the overall finish. For example, it seems primordial to refine the trailing edges of the wings and propeller blades.
Todos tenemos un avión que es nuestra debilidad… cual es tu avión favorito? / Everybody has a favorite plane, … which one is yours and why?
ESP: La elección es difícil, hay tantos aviones hermosos… Perdón pero no puedo elegir uno.
ENG: The choice is difficult there are so many beautiful planes, I can’t choose sorry.
Que opinión te merecen los concursos? Te gusta concursar o te gusta ir solo a mirar y charlar con otros modelistas? / What do you think about scale model contests? do you like to participate or just go there to see some models and speak with friends and other modelers?
ESP: Nunca comienzo un proyecto pensando en un concurso, en primer lugar me importa disfrutar del armado. Si el resultado final es bueno, participo en algún concurso para verificar mi nivel de armado.
Me gustan los concursos porque puedo hablar con amigos y otros modelistas y pasar un fin de semana solo hablando de plástico, compartiendo técnicas, tomando cerveza y para la gran desesperación de mi esposa, comprar muchas cosas.
ENG: I never start a project focusing on a competition, first of all my own pleasure. If the result looks good I participate to check my level but I do not run after.
I love exhibitions to chat with my friends and spend a whole weekend discussing plastic, sharing tips, drinking beer and to the great despair of my wife, buy loads of stuff that look cool.

Tienes un modelista de referencia, alguien que admires, que te guste seguir sus trabajos, que te incentiva a la hora de mejorar tus modelos? Puedes recomendarnos algún trabajo en particular de ese modelista? / Do you have any modeller as a referent? someone you admire that motivates you to improve your models? Can you recommend us a particular work of that modeller?
ESP: Ustedes entrevistaron a muchos de ellos, y para mi es un honor ser entrevistado también. En escala 1/72 my maestro es François Regis Binder, su trabajo es increíble y además es una persona muy amable.
ENG: You interviewed many of them so I am very honored to be here. In 1/72 my master is François Regis Binder. His job is just incredible and he is a very nice guy.
Según tu forma de verlo, el modelismo es un hobby o es una forma mas de arte? / From your point of view, scale modelling is just a hobby or it can be consider it as “art”?
ESP: Ambos, creo que hay una parte artística muy importante en nuestro hobby, porque todos arman un modelo de acuerdo a sus sentimientos y su visión de la realidad.
ENG: Both, I think that there is an important artistic part in our hobby because everyone makes a model according to his feelings and his vision of the reality.
Tienes algún otro pasatiempo además del modelísmo como la fotografía o la pintura? / Do you have any other hobby besides scale modelling? such as photography, painting, etc?
ESP: Todo lo relacionado con los aviones por supuesto!
También leo muchos comics y me gusta ver programas de TV con mi esposa. De hecho, nada emocionante.
ENG: Everything about aircraft of course!
I read also a lot of comics, and I like watching TV show with my wife. Nothing really exciting in fact.
Panelado con oleos (a la antigua) o con los nuevos “washes”? / Panel lines with oils (Old school) or with new products ?
ESP: Definitivamente los nuevos productos! No todos son imprescindibles por supuesto, pero la facilidad con que uno puede usar estos productos los hace muy prácticos.
ENG: New products definitely! Although all is not essential of course but the ease of use make these new products very practical.
Que técnica consideras que no puede faltar a la hora de darle vida a un modelo? / What technique do your consider essential when giving life to a model?
ESP: Creo que el weathering es muy importante para darle vida a nuestro modelo, pero a veces tenemos que ajustarnos a la realidad!
No existe una receta milagrosa, hay que buscar información, fotos, observar el modelo real.
ENG: I think weathering is very important to give life to our models but we have to stay consistent with reality!
There is no miracle recipe, you have to document yourself, observe the reality, and train yourself.
Que crees que opina tu familia o amigos sobre esta locura que tenemos por el plástico? Te han dicho algo alguna vez? / How do you think your family and friends feel about this “love” for plastic? have they told you something about this?
ESP: Me ven como un alien con todos los pequeños detalles que hago y que nunca se van a ver. Algunos colegas creen que soy un niño pero cuando les muestro el resultado final cambian de opinion. La mayoría de la gente está feliz de que pueda hacer lo que me apasiona, y el resto no me importa! Lo principal es que me divierto mucho armando y tengo la oportunidad de conocer buenas personas gracias a este hobby.
ENG: I look like an alien with all the little things I do that will not even be seen. Some colleagues take me for a kid but globally when I show them the result their opinion changes. But most of the people are happy that I have a passion and for the others I do not care! The main thing is that I am having a lot of fun and I had the opportunity to meet great people thanks to this hobby.
Cual es tu fabricante de maquetas preferido? / Which is your favorite manufacturer?
ESP: Depende, por calidad Eduard y Tamiya sin dudas y por variedad y originalidad de su catálogo, Special Hobby.
ENG: It depends, for the quality Eduard and Tamiya of course and for the richness of the catalog and the originality, Special Hobby.
Que periodo, región o industria de la aviación es tu preferido a la hora de un proyecto y cuál el menos? por que? / Which period, region or industry of the aviation is your favorite one when building a model or starting a project? and what is your least favorite? why?
ESP: Segunda Guerra, porque me arrullaron las historias heroicas de los pilotos durante la guerra, también por la estética de los aviones y sus camuflajes tan interesantes. Los jets modernos también me gustan.
ENG: WWII because I was lulled by the heroic stories of the pilots during the war, also for the aesthetic of planes and the number of interesting camouflage to reproduce. But modern jet are cool too.
Fotograbados y resinas ó scratch, tienes alguna preferencia? / Photo Etched and resins or scratch building… do you have any preference?
ESP: Ambos! Si existe un set en resina lo uso y si hace falta lo mejoro, aunque soy un poco vago y si me puedo evitar ese trabajo, lo hago. Sin embargo siempre me fijo si los agregados realmente aportan algo al modelo, en caso contrario no los uso o los hago en scratch.
ENG: Both! If a resin set exists I will use it as much as possible and improve it if needed. I’m lazy so if I can avoid the job I do it. However I always check that the new pieces brings something more to the model, if not I do not use them or redo them in scratch.
Te has frustrado con el armado de algún modelo? lograste terminarlo? o decidiste armar otro y esperar a que salga un molde mas nuevo? / Have you ever felt frustrated when building a model? did you finished it or decided to build another one? did you wait for a new one to be released?
ESP: Si, una o dos veces, y el modelo termino en la basura. Luego de reflexionar, los kits eran buenos, pero al mismo tiempo no quería problemas al momento de ensamblar o lijar el modelo.
ENG: Yes once or twice and the model ended up in the trash. After reflection the kits were good but at the time I just did not want to bother with adjusting or sanding problems.
Hay algo que no te guste hacer cuando estas armado un modelo, como ser lijar, pintar ruedas, repanelar, etc? / Is there any activity you do not enjoy when building? such as sanding, painting, painting wheels, rescribing panels lines, etc?
ESP: Detallar y enmascarar la cabina, odio eso! No puedes cometer errores en este proceso, aunque siempre algún problema ocurre.
Repanelar? también lo odio! Admiro a los modelistas que tienen la habilidad de repelar tan bien que parece un kit de Tamiya.
ENG: Detailing and masking the canopy, I hate this! You do not have the right to make mistakes and it is always there that it happens.
Rescribing? The same! I am admiring people who manage to rescribe as well as if it was a Tamiya kit.
Te gustaría compartir una foto de tu vitrina con nuestros lectores? / Would you like sharing a picture of your showcase so as our readers can appreciate it?
ESP: Tengo una vitrina junto al TV, así cuando algún programa me aburre siempre puedo ver mis aviones.
ENG: One showcase, but installed next to the TV, like that when the program bores me I can always watch my planes.
Cómo te definirías… un contador de remaches, apegado a la realidad dimensional e histórica o un modelista con algunas licencias, más relajado, de los que piensan “si se ve como un Spit`, entonces es un Spit`!” / How do you define yourself; as a rivet counter devoted to dimensional and historical reality or a relaxed modeller with some permissions? someone who thinks “if it looks like a Spit, so it is a Spit”
ESP: Soy mas de la segunda opción, si se ve bien está bien. Me gusta agregar detalles y prestar atención a la pintura, pero lo que no se puede ver, no vale la pena detallarlo.
Cuando me divierto puedo detallar un modelo al máximo, y a veces solo quiero armar algo simple sin complicaciones, después de todo, esto un hobby!
ENG: I am rather of the second school, if it looks like it’s good. I like to add the missing details, to pay attention to the decoration but what can not be seen, can’t be seen then not worth dwelling there. When I have fun I can detail a model with a lot of things, and sometimes I only want to do a simple build without bothering, it’s a hobby!
Últimamente el mundo del modelismo ha crecido en técnicas y productos… eres de los que se mantiene fiel a la vieja escuela, que mantienen sus técnicas anteriores o de los que están al día sobre las últimas novedades del mercado, probando siempre nuevos productos y técnicas? / Lately the modeller’s world has changed and improved regarding techniques and products, do you stay loyal to the old school and keep your previous techniques? or… are you informed about the latest releases and try them?
ESP: No tengo un método standard, en cada armado uso diferentes técnicas. Actualmente me siento inspirado por las figuras y los vehículos militares, para aprender nuevas técnicas y poder aplicarlas en mis modelos. Si no pruebo cosas nuevas, no puedo progresar y me aburro.
ENG: I do not have a standard method. I work with feeling and each built uses different techniques. Currently I am inspired by the figures and the armored vehicles to improve myself and bring new effects on my models. Without trying new things I do not progress and get bored.
Que le dirías al modelista que recién comienza, cuales serian tus palabras de aliento o consejos para el?/ What can you tell people that are entering to the modelling world? Any advise or words of encouragement?
ESP: Sin dogma, sin leyes, hagan lo que quieran, con su visión y con lo que esté a su alcance! No hay necesidad de comprar el último kit que salió y los últimos productos para obtener un buen resultado, solo haz lo que te haga feliz, el resto llegara con el tiempo.
ENG: No dogma, no laws, do what pleases you, with your vision and your means! No need to buy retail kits and the latest fashionable product to get a nice result, just make yourself happy. All the rest will come with time.
