🇦🇷 Muchos armamos modelos como juguetes de niños, pero también todos tuvimos un momento en que dejamos de jugar para dedicarnos más seriamente al hobbie, recuerdas ese día en que dijiste esto del modelismo me gusta en serio?
De chico armé muchos modelos, siempre en el mismo nivel, pintados con Humbrol, luego abandoné el hobby por muchos años para hacer deporte y otras cosas, la pasión por el modelismo volvió cuando tenía 30 años, comprando modelos que venían con una revista de aviones, luego visite una tienda de modelismo y comencé a aprender los trucos del oficio y desde entonces no me he detenido, tratando siempre de mejorar.
🇺🇸 Many scale modellers have started building models as a game, using them as toys when child, but at some point in their lives they have stopped playing and have started building in a more professional way… do you remember that transition?
As a child I built a lot of models, always on the same level, painting them with Humbrol, then I abandoned the hobby for many years, to do sports and other things; the passion came back when I was 30, buying models attached to an aircraft magazine, then I attended a model shop and I began to learn the tricks of the trade and since then I have not stopped, trying to improve myself.
🇦🇷 Que cantidad de maquetas estimas que tienes en tu “Stock” sin armar?
No muchos, alrededor de 60 cajas, pero todas llenas con accesorios de todo tipo.
🇺🇸 How many kits do you have in your stash waiting to be built?
Not many, about sixty boxes, but all stuffed with accessories of all kinds.
🇦🇷 Elige un elemento del modelismo, una herramienta, accesorio, pintura, etc, que haya cambiado la forma de terminar un modelo o bien tu forma de trabajar… algo que a tu entender haya revolucionado el hobbie.
Indudablemente el aerógrafo, que nos permite obtener una fina terminación de pintura y generar sombreados imposibles de realizar con los pinceles.
🇺🇸 Choose an element of scale modelling (a tool, accessory, paint, etc) that has changed your way of working or the way you finish a model… something that you believe has been revolutionary for this hobby.
Certainly the airbrush that allowed a finesse of painting and shades impossible to obtain with the brushes.
🇦🇷 Te dedicas full-time al armado de modelos? (En caso de responder no, que otra ocupación tienes y cómo manejas tus horarios para poder armar tus modelos?)
Seguramente no tantas como me gustaría, mi trabajo me compromete mucho, pero trato de tener libre una hora por la mañana y otra por las tardes, por lo que diría que no le dedico más de 2 horas por día al armado, a veces incluso menos.
🇺🇸 How many hours do you dedicate to this hobby? is it a full time activity? if not, how do you manage your time?
Surely not as many as I would like; my job commits me a lot, but I try to cut out an hour early in the morning and an hour in the evening, so no more than two hours a day, sometimes even less.

🇦🇷 Recuerdas cual fue tu primer maqueta y como la conseguiste? Fue un regalo, la compraste tu mismo?
Creo que el primer modelo fue un barco que me dieron con las latas de limpieza, pero los dinosaurios acababan de morir en ese momento…
🇺🇸 Do you remember which was your first model and how did you get it? Did you buy it or it was a gift?
I think the first model was a ship that they gave with the cleanser cans, but the dinosaurs had just died out at the time…
🇦🇷 Tienes idea que cantidad de maquetas llevas armadas hasta el día de hoy?
Muchos, unos 100 o más, los de mi mejor momento serán unos 30 aproximadamente.
🇺🇸 Do you have any idea of how many models have you built so far?
Several, at least a hundred or more; those of the best period are about thirty.
🇦🇷 Cual sería tu rutina modelística, si la hay, o que tiempo de tu día dedicas al modelismo? tienes un horario preferido para sentarte a trabajar, como ser la noche por ejemplo?
Como mencioné antes, temprano por la mañana de 6:30 a 7:30 y por las tardes desde las 18:30 hasta las 19:30, luego estoy muy cansado y podría ocasionar un desastre!
🇺🇸 Tell us about you modelling routine, do you have a special time of day? at night for example?
As I mentioned above, in the early morning from 6:30 to 7:30 and in the evening from 18:30 to 19:30, then I’m too tired and at risk of disaster!
🇦🇷 Cuál es tu etapa preferida del modelismo y porque? (compra, investigación, armado, detallado, pintura, weathering, etc).
Sin dudas la pintura y el weathering, la parte mas importante para darle un toque personal al modelo. También me gusta mucho detallar y pintar los interiores de los aviones.
🇺🇸 Which is your favorite process when building a model and why? (Buying, investigation, building, painting, weathering, etc).
Surely painting and weathering, the most important phase to give a personal touch to the model. I also love to detail and paint the interiors of the aircraft.
🇦🇷 En que proyecto o maqueta estas trabajando actualmente?
Un Boeing B-17 de Revell en 1:72. Hice todos los interiores en scratch, hace aproximadamente un año que estoy trabajando en este modelo y apenas estoy a la mitad del trabajo.
🇺🇸 Which project or model are you working on now?
A Revell Boeing B-17 in 1:72. I scratchbuilt all the interiors; I’ve been working on it for a year and I’m only halfway through the job.
🇦🇷 Que tanto te gusta detallar un modelo? Y qué importancia le das a fidelidad histórica cuando armas modelos para ti?
Soy un fanático de los detalles, pero la fidelidad histórica es fundamental.
🇺🇸 When building models, are the details important to you? how important is the historical fidelity of a model?
I am a fanatic of details but also historical fidelity is fundamental.
🇦🇷 Todos tenemos un avión que es nuestra debilidad… cual es tu avión favorito?
No puedo responder porque no tengo uno favorito… pero si tuviera que elegir uno, sería el P-47 Thunderbolt, estoy fascinado con el tamaño y la fuerza bruta que transmite.
🇺🇸 Everybody has a favorite plane, … which one is yours and why?
I can not answer because I do not have a favorite plane… if I have to say one, maybe it’s the P-47 Thunderbolt; I’m fascinated by the size and the brute force that transmits.
🇦🇷 Que opinión te merecen los concursos? Te gusta concursar o te gusta ir solo a mirar y charlar con otros modelistas?
En el pasado participé en varios concursos pero ahora solo me limito a participar en los mas importantes o en los que organizan mis amigos de otros clubes.
Si no te presentas a concursar con la ansiedad de ganar un premio, los concursos son una excelente oportunidad para conocer otros modelistas y aprender de ellos.
🇺🇸 What do you think about scale model contests? do you like to participate or just go there to see some models and speak with friends and other modelers?
In the past I have done several competitions but now I have limited my participation to the most important ones or organized by old friends of other clubs. If you do not participate with the anxiety of the prize, competitions can be a great way to meet other modelers and learn new techniques.
🇦🇷 Tienes una página personal, Facebook o blog donde ver tus trabajos?
No me llevo muy bien con la internet, pero esta el sitio de mi club, el “Drive & Fly Model Club” donde pueden ver mis trabajos y también los de otros miembros del club.
🇺🇸 Do you have a personal website, Facebook or blog where readers can see and follow your work?
My relationship with the internet is quite conflicting; there is the site of my club, the “Drive & Fly Model Club” , where you can find a members page with my jobs, just click on my name.
🇦🇷 Tienes un modelista de referencia, alguien que admires, que te guste seguir sus trabajos, que te incentiva a la hora de mejorar tus modelos? Puedes recomendarnos algún trabajo en particular de ese modelista?
Sigo el trabajo de muchos modelistas, me gusta la escuela española, Villalba, Quijano, etc… Ultimamente quedé impresionado con Megas Tsonos, su Stirling construido a scracth es impresionante!
🇺🇸 Do you have any modeller as a referent? someone you admire that motivates you to improve your models? Can you recommend us a particular work of that modeller?
I follow the work of many modelers; I like the Spanish school of Villalba, Quijano, etc.. Lately I am impressed by Megas Tsonos, his scratchbuilt Stirling is amazing!
🇦🇷 Según tu forma de verlo, el modelismo es un hobby o es una forma mas de arte?
Quizás decir que es un arte es un poco exagerado, no hay duda que para obtener ciertos resultados se necesita de inspiración y técnica, quizás el proceso de weathering requiere una cierta habilidad artística para lograr un resultado creíble y realista.
🇺🇸 From your point of view, scale modelling is just a hobby or it can be consider it as “art”?
Perhaps saying that it is an art is excessive; for sure, to obtain certain results it takes inspiration and technique and perhaps the weathering process requires a certain artistic ability to blend colors, wear and wash in a credible and homogeneous way.
🇦🇷 Tienes algún otro pasatiempo además del modelísmo como la fotografía o la pintura?
Como dije, me gustan los deportes como Bicicleta de Montaña y Trekking… me encanta estar en la naturaleza!
🇺🇸 Do you have any other hobby besides scale modelling? such as photography, painting, etc?
As I said, I love sports like Mountain Bike and trekking…I love being in the nature!
🇦🇷 Panelado con oleos (a la antigua) o con los nuevos “washes”?
Incluso si voy en contra de la corriente, todavía uso los óleos. Me resultan mucho más manejables y puedo obtener cualquier color mezclando los colores primarios. Los productos de última generación son demasiado pesados para los aviones y, a menudo, hacen que se vean como tanques.
🇺🇸 Panel lines with oils (Old school) or with new products?
Even if I go against current, I still use the old oil colors; I find them much more manageable and I can realize every shade of color mixing primary colors. I find the latest generation products too heavy for airplanes and often they look like tanks…
🇦🇷 Que técnica consideras que no puede faltar a la hora de darle vida a un modelo?
En mi opinión, el trabajo con aerógrafo es fundamental para crear luces y sombras, luego los lavados deben ser suaves, solo para resaltar los paneles. Finalmente, con rayones y manchas complementamos el trabajo.
🇺🇸 What technique do your consider essential when giving life to a model?
In my opinion, the airbrush work is fundamental to create lights and shadows, then the washing must be light, just to highlight the panels. Scratches and staining complete the work.
🇦🇷 Que crees que opina tu familia o amigos sobre esta locura que tenemos por el plástico? Te han dicho algo alguna vez?
Mi esposa soporta pacientemente mi pasión por el hobby, y usualmente ella es quien me dá el veredicto final sobre un modelo, mi hija es bastante indiferente, pero a sus 13 años es entendible ya que tiene otros intereses.
Mis amigos a veces se quedan perplejos porque a mi edad todavía juego con aviones y tanques…
🇺🇸 How do you think your family and friends feel about this “love” for plastic? have they told you something about this?
My wife patiently endures my passions and usually the final judgment on the last finished model is up to her; my daughter is quite indifferent, but at her age (13 years) there are other interests. My friends are sometimes perplexed because at my age I still play with airplanes and tanks…
🇦🇷 Cual es tu fabricante de maquetas preferido?
No tengo un fabricante favorito pero creo que Tamiya es la que tiene la mejor ingeniería de moldes, fáciles de armar y muy detallados.
🇺🇸 Which is your favorite manufacturer?
I do not have a favorite brand but I think that Tamiya is the one with the best engineering of the molds, easy to assemble and very detailed.
🇦🇷 Que periodo, región o industria de la aviación es tu preferido a la hora de un proyecto y cuál el menos? por que?
Me encanta desde la Primera Guerra Mundial hasta los 70, preferentemente la segunda guerra mundial. Debo decir que no me gustan mucho los jets modernos y no soporto los de última generación, los encuentro insípidos, en términos cortos, me detendría en el Tomcat.
🇺🇸 Which period, region or industry of the aviation is your favorite one when building a model or starting a project? and what is your least favorite? why?
I love ranging from the First World War to the 70s, preferring the Second World War. I must say that I do not particularly love modern jets and I can not stand the last generation of fighters, I find them insipid; in short terms I would stop at the Tomcat…
🇦🇷 Fotograbados y resinas ó scratch, tienes alguna preferencia?
Uso todo lo que esté disponible. Resinas y Fotograbados simplifican el trabajo de detallado, si no hay afters disponibles en el mercado para el avión que quiero armar, hago uso del scratch para complementar y detallar el modelo.
🇺🇸 Photo Etched and resins or scratch building… do you have any preference?
I use everything that is available. Resins and photoetched parts simplify your life; if nothing is available on the market and I want to make that plane, I resort to scratchbuilding, even to complete missing areas or improve the details of the model.
🇦🇷 Te has frustrado con el armado de algún modelo? lograste terminarlo? o decidiste armar otro y esperar a que salga un molde mas nuevo?
Usualmente no, cuando empiezo un modelo siempre lo termino. Pero en los últimos años modelos que llevan mucho tiempo de armado, como el B-17 que estoy armando ahora, me cansan y tengo que recurrir a mi fuerza de voluntad para poder terminarlos.
🇺🇸 Have you ever felt frustrated when building a model? did you finished it or decided to build another one? did you wait for a new one to be released?
Usually not; when I start a model I always finish it, but in recent years long and demanding jobs like the B-17 I’m doing, make me tired and I have to resort to my willpower to complete the model.
🇦🇷 Hay algo que no te guste hacer cuando estas armado un modelo, como ser lijar, pintar ruedas, repanelar, etc?
Odio la fase de lijado y acabado…
🇺🇸 Is there any activity you do not enjoy when building? such as sanding, painting, painting wheels, rescribing panels lines, etc?
I hate the sanding and finishing phase…

No se ve mucho y algunos modelos están en un concurso, pero aquí esta…

You do not see much and some models are around for competitions, but here it is…
🇦🇷 Cómo te definirías… un contador de remaches, apegado a la realidad dimensional e histórica o un modelista con algunas licencias, más relajado, de los que piensan “si se ve como un Spit`, entonces es un Spit`!”
Admito que no soy un fanático de ese calibre, siempre y cuando no haya errores exagerados. Me molestan mas los errores de forma, como las alas con el perfil incorrecto o la nariz demasiado grande o delgada, en definitiva, esos detalles que cuando miramos a un modelo nos hace pensar que algo esta mal, que no se parece al avión real.
En cambio, si le faltan unos pocos milímetros aquí y allá, por lo general no se nota.
🇺🇸 How do you define yourself; as a rivet counter devoted to dimensional and historical reality or a relaxed modeller with some permissions? someone who thinks “if it looks like a Spit, so it is a Spit”
I admit that I’m not a fanatic of the caliber, as long as there are no exaggerated errors. I’m more disturbed by shape errors, like the fins with the wrong profile or the nose too big or thin; in short terms, those things that when you look at the model make you think that something is wrong, that does not resemble the real plane. Instead if it lacks a few millimeters here and there, usually it is not noticed.
🇦🇷 Últimamente el mundo del modelismo ha crecido en técnicas y productos… eres de los que se mantiene fiel a la vieja escuela, que mantienen sus técnicas anteriores o de los que están al día sobre las últimas novedades del mercado, probando siempre nuevos productos y técnicas?
Soy bastante tradicional y me resulta difícil cambiar mis técnicas favoritas, pero si hay algo realmente innovador y útil para mejorar mi forma de hacer modelos, ¡lo probaré!
🇺🇸 Lately the modeller’s world has changed and improved regarding techniques and products, do you stay loyal to the old school and keep your previous techniques? or… are you informed about the latest releases and try them?
I am rather traditionalist and I find it difficult to change my favorite techniques, but if there is something really innovative and useful for my way of doing models, I will try it!
🇦🇷 Que le dirías al modelista que recién comienza, cuales serian tus palabras de aliento o consejos para el?
Me gustaría decir que lo más importante es divertirse y empezar con paciencia, sin pretender hacer obras maestras inmediatamente. Este es un hobby donde la experiencia es esencial, lleva tiempo obtener ciertos resultados y no debes desanimarte si fallas con tu primer modelo.
Es mejor comenzar con un modelo simple y terminarlo, en vez de empezar con uno muy complejo, lleno de resinas y fotograbados y al cabo de unas semanas abandonarlo porque no lo podemos terminar, entonces, se paciente y diviértete en este hermoso hobby!

🇺🇸 What can you tell people that are entering to the modelling world? Any advise or words of encouragement?
I would like to say that the most important thing is to have fun and to start with patience, without pretending to immediately create masterpieces. This is a hobby where experience is essential, it takes time to achieve certain results and you should not be discouraged if the first models fail; it is better to start with simple models and increase difficulties gradually. I have seen so many guys enthusiastically starting models too complex, full of resins and photoetched parts and then abandon everything after a few weeks because of the impossibility of finishing the model, so be patient and have fun with this beautiful hobby!
